R&D Project Engineer (Pleione Energy - Bremen, DE)

Pleione Energy GmbH is looking for a talented and enthusiastic R&D Project Engineer to work on cutting-edge projects and innovative products that will shape the future of the high-growth energy storage market. 

This stimulating role allows you to direct your own initiatives at the intersection of battery research and battery development. You will investigate and evaluate new ideas and technologies in order to improve our batteries' functioning and promote innovation. You will assist in creating our future and drive our roadmap based on your experience and network in battery technology.

This position allows you to contribute to our overall success in the field of high-performance batteries and supercapacitors for aerospace and residential applications, and it provides you with the unique chance to participate in all phases of energy storage technology based on your interests and abilities. You will be able to advise and assist in our energy storage technology development to further improve our position in the market.

This is a full-time position based in the greater area of Bremen, Germany (Stuhr)

The last year the company has also established a subsidiary company (Pleione Energy GmbH), and is building a new team in the greater area of Bremen (Brinkum, Stuhr). Bremen is the center of the aerospace industry in Germany.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In the technical area of Lithium-Ion battery and supercapacitors development:
    • Design and develop the next generation of lithium-ion cells
    • Mixing and coating at benchtop- and pilot-scale
    • Characterization using standard materials science tools
    • Cell assembly at the mAh- and Ah-scale
    • Cell testing and data presentation
    • Collaborate with cell modeling teams and battery engineering groups to verify accuracy of performance models
  • In the project management:
    • Collaborate with QC team to establish acceptance criteria for all incoming materials
    • Undertake quantitative analysis using cutting-edge models and analytical tools
    • Draft high-quality presentations and reports
    • Offer support in full acquisition process of new projects
    • Manages the day-to-day activities of the assigned project
    • Leads the project team 
    • Ensure safe and smooth execution of each project about the contract administration, change order review and management, invoice verification and approvals from contractors and vendors

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • B.S./M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering , Materials Science, Chemistry, or other related technical field
  • 2 years of experience in a relevant position in energy storage industry will be appreciated
  • Resourceful problem solver with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team player as well as provide creative out-of-the-box solutions
  • Basic understanding of electrochemical processes as they relate to lithium batteries and supercapacitors
  • Basic knowledge of pouch, coin cell, cylindrical, and prismatic cell assembly at a lab and pilot scale
  • Experience with data processing (Microsoft Excel or other)
  • Self-starter with ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives
  • Strong understanding of physicochemical materials characterization tools
  • Strong communication, documentation and organizational skills
  • Ability to use statistical tools to support proposed solutions
  • Strong understanding of current and historical state-of-the-art in the battery industry
  • Proficient in English and German
  • Highly organized and result-driven
  • An eye for detail attitude
