Postdoctoral Fellowship in Precision Small Animal Image-Guided Radiation Therapy
The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore is seeking a highly motivated individual to perform cutting-edge research in small animal image-guided radiotherapy centered on the SARRP (small animal radiation research platform). The successful candidate will be responsible for leading physics-driven research projects such as thermally modulated radiotherapy and low-level inflammation imaging, in pre-clinical small animal models for eventual clinical translation.
Qualifications and Skills
Ph.D. in Medical Physics, Applied Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Nuclear engineering or related fields. Expertise required in one or more of the following areas: strong background in imaging, image processing, treatment planning, dose calculations and deformable image registration, 3D modeling and printing. Strong scientific programming/scripting skills in MATLAB, C++, Solidworks, CATIA, Python, etc., are highly desired. Experience in small animal radiation therapy is desired but not required. The candidate should demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, as evidenced by publications and oral presentations at major professional meetings.
This is a two year, full-time, mentored research position. The successful candidate will receive regular mentorship and evaluation, be trained and encouraged to disseminate research findings in major national conferences and peer-reviewed publications, and to seek extramural research funding.
Facility and Equipment
Our group works on pre-clinical to clinical radiotherapy research. We have a dedicated SARRP system, a GLP-compliant lab space, as well as a core facility with micro CT, micro PET and small animal MRI. In addition our lab has several treatment planning systems (pre-clinical and clinical), and three high-end GPU workstations, each with dual 8-core Xeon CPUs and Tesla K80 or K20 GPU cards.
The position will remain open until suitable candidates are found. Please send CV and a letter of interest to Dr. Amit Sawant: firstname.lastname@example.org.
